I will not be voting for this. The scam was created by a conservative government and hi-jacked by the socialist followers on. The lottery should be scrapped and public expenditure be financed by the public - and not a tax on the poor.
Regardless of if you consider the lottery to be a scam (I’d more say it was a stealth tax, but you do have a point), since the money will be going somewhere why not direct it somewhere that will help the local economy?
I totally disagree with you that it is a tax on the poor. No one has to pay or play the lottery - its optional!
In this instance i’d rather the money was invested in the Black Country than elsewhere!
If no one played there would be no money. It was interesting that, when the lottery first started, the machines were located in poorer areas and the marketing was all about easy money. The tax on the poor argument is very dated. The stealth tax comment hits the button on the head. The lottery was a John major introduction. Do we know what Mr Cameron says about it now. It does seem to support public expenditure (Walsall Library Services for instance) and I am not so sure that it was ever intended to do that. If Walsall MBC (conservative) was prepared to fund libraries the lottery would not have to and if HMG (Labour) was willing to fund WMBC in line with agreed formula perhaps WMBC could fund libraries.
What is plan B as sustans won the money? If the scheme is worth doing it is worth doing. If it is not perhaps that is why it did not win.
How much extra on council tax to pay for it? If there are 1,000,000 people in the Black Country spread across 500,000 households it is only £1.00 per week for two years. Stop playing the lottery and the scheme is done. The Black Country has a history of getting of its a**e when kicked in the grollies by others. Let’s do it again.
